Robert Shaw has advised museums and collectors around the country about their collections of decoys. Bob was curator of the world renowned Shelburne Museum decoy collection from 1981-1994. During that time, he greatly expanded and improved that most remarkable of all public collections through donations and purchases of important work by Fred Allen, Charles Bergman, George Boyd, Judge Glen Cameron, John Dilley, Robert and Catherine Elliston, August Haas, Harold Haertel, A.J. King, Orel Laboeuf, Robert Paquette, Charles and Edna Perdew, Louis Rathmell, the Reeves family, Charles Schoenheider, George Sibley (aka Mr. X), Charles Walker, Gus Wilson, and other formerly unrepresented master carvers.

Bob works closely with collectors and institutions to analyze and catalog collections and set goals for collection development and care. He has advised a number of private collectors over the years on individual purchases as well as how to develop and manage their holdings. He also was Sotheby's consultant on the sale of the legendary McCleery decoy collection and has assessed and advised on decoys in the collections of the Long Island Museum and other institutions.

Bob says, "Knowledge is power. Every serious collector and institution needs and relies on unbiased expert advice. My knowledge and experience can save you time and money and help you avoid costly mistakes. I can act as your private curator and help you focus your collecting activities, set realistic goals, and find and acquire appropriate objects. I can also advise on museum-quality care, display, and conservation of your collections, and arrange professional photography to document your birds for publication or insurance purposes."
